I'm still trying to get my office computer back up & running the way it's supposed to, got the mischief narrowed down to a bad stick of RAM & a HD that was ready to croak. Suspect
If I had a nickel for every "new" OS install I stuck on here over the past 2 weeks I coulda bought a new machine! No

I like repair jobs like yours: because its cheap and I don't have to charge the customer much.
I don't like jobs where motherboard and everything on it is fried, then I have to give bad news Crying or Very sad

My email refuses to open HTML links & the [right click] "open with" menu lists only "regular" directories, nothing executable.
The "default application" selection in the settings menu doesn't address the problem, same with the "preferences" menu from thunderbird's preferences menu.
I suspect a corrupted configuration file to be the culprit, as the default email user directory was copied off the machine with the bad ram & HD.
Where's the location of said config file/s? I'll try copying a hopefully "good" directory from off another machine.

On a Linux box Firefox stores it's data in a hidden directory in your home folder called .mozilla Icedove the Debian equivalent stores it in your home folder in a hidden folder called .icedove. I am assuming you will have either a .thunderbird or another folder in .mozilla. Notice the periods before each folder name that means they are hidden in most desktop environments you can show hidden files under the view menu. Hopefully this is helpful.
