Ubuntu installed size question Empty Ubuntu installed size question

Mon Jan 10, 2011 7:33 pm
Does anyone know the size of an Ubuntu install? You can't customize it from a default install so I thought it would be easy information to find yet I can't find it anywhere. I don't really want to install it just to find out. I was looking at Peppermint and it is 1.5gb installed and I was wondering what the difference is. I know that one is designed for lighter weight systems it just seems like 1.5 is large for a lightweight OS.

It is just under 1GB in size.

I'm just going to have to build an Ubuntu box in VMWare at work to get the answer.

I didn't get a chance to do a straight Ubuntu install although I did do a minimal install using an alternate CD. This is a base OS no xwindows and it was 787mb which I was amazed at it is no wonder Peppermint is 1.5gb half of that is base OS no programs.

Wow. I been testing different variants, and I really like Android OS. Been a fan of it since its debut. Problem is, I could never get PhoenixOS to be that small in size; how they do it is quite remarkable! Like you said after the base os, you add the programs it blows up in size!

I saw a tour of Google headquarters, dang! I would work for them!

I was going to work for them I was sitting at the paper signing when they asked where I graduated college from. I said I hadn't finished yet. They then told me the deal was off they only hired graduates. I was ticked for a while but to be honest it is there loss not mine. I ended up as a Linux administrator at a good company and I can laugh about it now.
