wicd double icon fix Empty wicd double icon fix

Fri Jan 28, 2011 11:57 am
I am not sure why this happens but I have been fooling around with running TDE (Trinity KDE) on Squeeze for a while and it always showed two wicd icons in the task bar I don't know why and I also don't know why this fixes it but it does. If you suffer from this move the /etc/xdg/autostart/wicd-tray.desktop to your autostart folder you will need to be root or if you have sudo rights you can preface the following command with sudo:
mv /etc/xdg/autostart/wicd-tray.desktop /home/your_user_id/.trinity/Autostart/wicd-tray.desktop
Now change directory into that folder:
cd /home/your_user_id/.trinity/Autostart
And chown the file to yourself:
chown your_user_id:your_user_id wicd-tray.desktop
Now reboot this still launches wicd and everything works but now you only have one icon.
If you have more than one user you would have to make copies in each of their folders and chown it to them, you could add it the skel directory if you were going to create a redistributable version of Linux using something like remastersys.
Just something that annoyed me it was purely cosmetic so is not needed unless you want to. I spent a lot of time researching this issue as there isn't a lot of information out there about it so I figured I would share.
