However you want to do it is fine. I appreciate all the help. The info I found on the USR5416 say it is linux compatible:
http://www.usr.com/support/product-template.asp?prod=5416
But who knows what's compatible anymore? Linux is changing all the time, sometimes for the better and sometimes for worse.

USR coming at ya!
Tue Feb 15, 2011 7:05 pm
I hear ya; the Cisco Aironet cards have been "unrecognized" in applications later than Linspire 5.5 (but still worked anyway).LinuXFroG wrote:However you want to do it is fine. I appreciate all the help. The info I found on the USR5416 say it is linux compatible:

We have always had good results with the USR products; in fact, the wireless routers can be set to be "transparent" and will function under conditions that would normally gag other so-called "compatible" routers.
I'll fire the USR off in the mail tomorrow; this time I'll have it go a more direct route.
With the amount of travel time the first one took, it could've made it to Saudi Arabia! (no kidding).
Once we know its working for you I can email a postage paid PDF doc/label to you so you can return the other adapter.
so... do ya need anything else while there's a box heading your way?

Not that I know of. If you think I need something else, or just want to get rid of something. Throw it in.

Froggy what exactly are you looking for? If your looking for a LAN pci card
I have one I'll never use. Be glad to part with it. It's a TP-link Gigabit Ethernet Adapter. I'm not sure why I have it.

Actually, I need a WiFi card/adapter. Can't use an ethernet (LAN) anymore.

OK, the USR is on it's way, had to make an early run to the PO to get some other goodies mailed quick so with a little luck, you should be seeing the critter before the weekend.

Be cool if I do. That AN10 just passed away for no apparent reason. Windows sees it as an unknown USB device now. I had internet 1 minute and the next nothing. I called Cisco for support on it and got a run around. Award-Winning support? My backside.
I am now using my daughter's laptop.

No, she isn't and it isn't under warranty anymore. That was up last month. Just my luck to.

Calm down Brother. I'm anxious as all get out too. Mail hasn't ran here yet. Usually around 3pm.

Got it about 45mins ago......no good news though. I tried it with PhoenixOS, Mint and Oz Unity. Even tried it on the Ubuntu 10.04 and 10.10 LiveCDs just for the heck of it.
I didn't see a return envelope, so I will send back when I can.

Yah, I forgot the labels, remembered 'em after I had it all buttoned up.
Ya might want to play around with that adapter some more though.
You got ndiswrapper installed?
I'll do a look-see for more USB adapters & get them all in a pile, if ya don't have the USR running by Sunday I'll mail off the whole pile of them (this time with a couple blank labels).
We can email the return label w/postage on it as a PDF doc if you have access to a moderately decent printer.

Nah, no printer here. My last one bit the dust about a year ago and never replaced it. Yea, I have ndiswrapper/utilities and usbmodeswitch on my flash drive for easy install.

No printer? Hmmm... our "spare" Epson seems to have disappeared but there's one of those el-cheapo Lexmarks here, the ones so cheap that when the ink runs out, you're better off just buying a new one because the printer cost less than a new ink tank.
I already know that they're not Linux-friendly though.
Hey, I just tripped over another USB adapter; a Zonet ZEW2508, but there's little info out there on it.
That darn USR should've worked though...
What brand/model is your router, by the way? Have ya tried rebooting/resetting that critter?

We have 2:
Cisco Valet:
http://home.cisco.com/en-us/wireless/valet
and a Netgear WGR614v10
But it isn't the routers, it's just that I can't get the adapters installed.

Try loading something like "WiFi Radar", it gives a better eyeball on what's going on.
If it's any consolation, neither of the 2 netbooks we have here wants to talk to our wireless APs.
They see 'em just fine but do not wanna talk back to them.
Hey, are ya in the market for an old ThinkPad?
How 'bout an Itronix 6250?

LinuXFroG I take it you are talking about you LAN card you can't get installed???
Do you have a desktop computer. and you need a PCI LAN card that will install. Most newer ones you don't have to install.
What Operating systems do you have?
Does the LAN card work in Windows?

Ummm....truthfully, I would have no use for it, except maybe as a shelf decorator piece. Was never a fan of those GD Itronic gadgets. LOL!

I can't use an ethernet card (PCI LAN)at this point. Wished I could. As for OSes, I have Win7, PhoenixOS (Karmic), OZ Unity and Mint. I also have Fedora 14 on an external HDD.

Heck, if you have windoze installed, *usually* all ya need is to do the setup under windoze & it'll be working when you switch back over to Linux.LinuXFroG wrote:... As for OSes, I have Win7, PhoenixOS (Karmic), OZ Unity and Mint. I also have Fedora 14 on an external HDD.
That's the only reason I keep a dual-boot system on my sister's computers, she's migratory (snowbird) & needs to reset all the hardware every time she comes home.

I couldn't get them working under Windows 7. They are no longer supported. So I couldn't find any drivers for them.

I have another spare USB stick wireless adapter that I left in Wisconsin with my kid; it's on its way here, expect to be seeing it in a day or three & I'll pass it along from here.
I was going to "go industrial" on ya & mail a Linksys WRT54G that had been flashed with a version of OpenWRT but the critter has been hiding from me. (or maybe just buried under a half a ton of other msc hardware)
We're WAY past due for a trip to the swap meet to unload a truckload of "spare parts".

No and if I try to run it in compatibility mode, it errors out on me. It might be cause I am running x64 win7.
