I have to agree with the big stick idea. Have you tried any LiveCDs do you have any other than the OS that isn't working?

I tried Unite17, which comes with Chrome and it does the same thing. As for switching browsers, I don't think that would have anything to do with it.

But I will dl Opera and transfer it and see what happens.

Unite17, SalineOS and vanilla Ubuntu, all Live, have the same issue.

Well, at least it's connecting, the staying connected part is probably going to take some improvised cuss words. Rolling Eyes
Is the password staying persistent?

Yes, the pass is consistent. It's a WPA-PSK secured system.

Well after taking a "big Stick", my Louisville Slugger and knocking my sytem back to the "Stone Age" and creating new cuss words. I think I have it working now.

After several bunching of my panties and delving through all the total bull at the official Ubuntu forums, I finally found how to get the Ralink working:

Open console and type in:
sudo rmmod rt2800usb

Done.

I don't know if the settings will stick on reboot or not, but I don't think it will be too much of an issue to make a script to run this at boot. If I had the knowledge that is. Which, I don't, but there's always Google!

Found out that the settings are not persistent. I have to re-run the command on start-up.

From this page http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1643071.html

sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

Add this line to the end of the file:

blacklist rt2800usb

Then save the file. From now on, rt2800usb should never load (unless you load it explicitly using "modprobe"), and your wireless connection

try the above

Thanx bro. Will give it a shot, has to be easier then creating a script to run at start-up.

Well, something bad happened and I think it is due to xnetcardconfig. After 2 reboots, I no longer have net. I don't even get the net icon. I will try and remove xnetcardconfig and see what the freak happens.

Ok, after a fresh install, blacklisting and NO installation of xnetcardconfig, it seems everything is fine. *Knock on wood.*

There has been numerous reboots, shutdowns just to make sure.

Thanx for all the help everyone, I am now ready to test out the next PhoenixOS!!! *Knock on wood.* Laughing

Mayby Ray will be kind enough to include the Ralink drivers in with the new package he's putting together. What a Face
... and maybe whatever was done back in LOS 5.0(5.5?) that made WinModems work, right outta the box!
(talk about an eye opener on that one!)

psssst... Ray... don't forget the LightScribe writer application! Wink
