With Ubuntu dropping Gnome I wouldn't be surprised to see Mint take the lead at the next release.

Is this true? What is going to be Ubuntu's main desktop environment.

I'm still waiting for Google to launch its OS.

Unity is the default going forward. http://unity.ubuntu.com/ If your machine can't handle the graphics it will drop back to a Gnome 2 like state. I hear you can set that as the default too but I have not played with it enough to say 100%. A friend of mine likes it and made me try it out for a week. I can honestly say that I don't like it. I can see the use on netbooks or phones but not on my desktop with a 24 inch monitor.

You can test Chrome-OS now if you like it takes some work though. http://www.zdnet.com/blog/open-source/how-to-install-googles-chrome-os/9006

That is a tough one. I think Android may be more popular but Chrome-OS would make drivers a lot easier.

I was just at Distrowatch and it's even closer! 6 more people visit Mint and their tied! I check that count once in a while and I was surprised at how close they are. Mint is a nice product, and I think Ubuntu has lost Users/Patrons with that Unity interface. I'm just not sold on it either. Sad

I tried Android x86 on a netbook and that Fujitsu Tablet. Of course the digitizer wasn't picked up, I expected that, but neither was the wireless in either case. Crying or Very sad

Yup: Im not giving up on android, but I may use Chrome-OS as a base instead for now to speed this release up untill i figure out how to fix the wifi drivers in android.
