Just curious, but maybe others will be as well...

Yup, getting the following:hqlinux wrote:

Curious why there's a Yahoo page error message...Sorry, the page you requested was not found.
Additionally, a 410 Gone error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Please check the URL for proper spelling and capitalization. If you're having trouble locating a destination on Yahoo!

I read this and thought I'd try it too... Yes, it is downloading, but it's a 1.3GB file which looks like a 4 hour session. Let's see what happens in 4 hours. Nothing else to do anyway but wait for the blizzard. Full report to follow.StanTheMan wrote:And on the raccomnputers site , there is a download header for PhoenixOS010610.iso but nothing will start downloading.

Less than 4 hours here, but over a Gigabyte sized image designed for a netbook???newyorkpaulie wrote:...it's a 1.3GB file which looks like a 4 hour session. Let's see what happens in 4 hours.

First Peek
Wed Feb 10, 2010 11:58 pm
Since nobody else had posted I decided to download and have a quick peek on one of my desktop machines. Downloaded quite quickly (ckecked at 750KBs), burnt and running as a live dvd. Quite impressed by the responses of this, I'll have to sort out a spare hard drive and install it I guess.
Looks like a really good job there Ray. Did notice that there was a Jennifer and a Gingermark in the home directory, no data attached though so I guess that was some testing.

Thanks for testing it! This is the direction I would like PhoenixOS to head into the future, its very fast and works very stable. Its designed for Mini-Laptops, I am glad you were able to get it to work on a desktop. Once you install it, should work even better!

Problem here is that I get a downlo9ad stall at egvey attempt.
I have tried a dozen different starts , usually at around 500 KB/s , gets from around 10 MB to about 200 MB then stalls. I have tried different target folders and different Linux OS s for downloads. Still trying.

Testing the Hawk-Mini
Thu Feb 11, 2010 4:41 pm
I had no trouble downloading or burning the iso to disc. Only prob for me is the screen res. I can't read some of the characters. I will run it again, maybe I can do some tweaking. Yes Ray, it's sleek and fast. Will the Valentines Day version be for regular laptops? This may take care of the screen res thing for me.
[added later] I can only run the live version - I get a message that it must run in "low graphics" and for a one-time session only (with no install option).

I have downloaded Hawk with no problems. I was not watching but initially it stated 1h 37m to go. Burnt the iso and ran it live. I am awaiting the desktop versions so I did not install. All is looking good.
In anticipation

I have downloaded it, I am now getting ready to burn it, so I can't answer your question yet...
Been way busy of late... no time to play, and I still need to get my precious wife something for Valentine's Day. I will probably do like I always do... wait till the last possible second, then wonder why all the "good stuff" is sold out when I get to the store...

I loaded this on one of my computers at work (Live DVD, not installed). It is KDE 3.5.11 based and has 640x480 at 60 Hz... Luckily, I have a 21" monitor so I can see the whole screen...
There is no apparent way to change the resolution, at least as far as I can tell after trying the settings panel. The software sources are from Canonical (Ubuntu 9.10) and also includes Remastersys... VERY NICE
There are several desktop icons for various programs (Open Office, Scribus, Amarok, Gimp, among others). There is also an installer icon, which I did not try as well. All in all, a pretty impressive "first effort", in my opinion...
Well... I have to get working...
Harvey
EDIT: My work computer that I loaded the LiveDVD on is an HP/Compaq DX2300 with a Pentium 4 3.2 GHz processor with 1 GB of RAM. The monitor is a ViewSonic P815 21" monitor. Also, upon shutdown of the LiveDVD... The shut down sequence has the "remove DVD from tray... then press Enter" feature... VERY NICE, Ray... I hate it when I have to continually have to push the DVD open tray button to get the dog gone thing to open BEFORE it goes back into the boot sequence.

This morning I downloaded the netbook ISO with no problem. No idea why it would not load in previous couple of days.
Install went smoothly. Using ' ext4 ' and grub2 bootloader. KDE desktop loads fast. I also have set up a second User account with no trouble. Partition usage is 3.6 GB total after first install.
Haven.t used KDE 3.5 for a while , but several features I had forgotten about.

Hawk (Mini) Trial

Been busy and missed the release, but I am trying it on an Acer Aspire One (AAO)
I am running it in Live mode at the moment till I get the drive backed up then I'll try installing.
The wireless was set up no problem. The first time I tried I screwed that up, I'm good at that! Second time I did it the proper way and connected to the net, no problem.
In some ways it seems more 'Homey' to this Linspire fanboy. I'll have to get it installed and set up, you know, move in the furniture, put up the drapes, hang a photo here and there to make it more homey...
Lookin' good so far Ray. I'll ley you know more later! JohnP

Thanks Glad to hear you liked it! The whole goal is to make a user friendly "Linspire Lke" out of box experience with this os, so glad to hear it worked well for you.
