Phoenix Debian Issues Empty Phoenix Debian Issues

Thu Dec 27, 2012 12:55 pm
So I am completing the backup of my macbook and I'm going to attempt a fresh install. I think the issue was that my hard drive was configured with my linux partitions in drives 4-6.

Meanwhile I attempted to reinstall Phoenix Debian on my Dell XPS M 1330. At first I thought I had a bad burn, so I burned three more disks.

I normally keep my /home partition as a separate partition, and I tried this time again. But I had read somewhere that it was best to organize your partitions like this

share
/home
/

I don't know if this is really the best way to configure or not, but after 6 unsuccessful installs I can say quite definitively that Phoenix will not correctly install correctly. I could log on via console, but if I attempted a gnome or kde log on it would fail.

Whatever the case reconfiguring the hard drive to

/
/home
share

does work and I am happily running Phoenix Debian again. Interesting note, for whatever reason lindvd isn't working, well actually none of the video apps are working with my dvd player. I think this might have more to do with my video card though, as I am able to get audio. going to play with it more tonight and possibly tomorrow while I'm on Staff Duty.

Interesting, will talk to John about that. Its funny you mention the lindvd probem, cuz I have the same problem. John doesn't; so it could definitely be some kind of a video driver problem with lindvd, not sure. Will look into it. Thanks for the update

No problem. I have a lot more time to play with my linux machines right now so I'm taking advantage of it. Have the home to myself until the 8th of January while the wife and little guy are in California visiting family.

I should be about as active on these forums as I was during the last couple years of spire... giving up FB for the most part anyway.
