Phoenix OS 12.04

Post  w8vfp on Thu Sep 13, 2012 8:56 pm

I am using the latest Phoenix OS on this machine now to post this. It runs nice on here. The printers work have local printer connect by USB the other is a network printer. It didn't see the network printer but when I entered the address of the print it installed. It seems to be stable so far. The only thing that gives me trouble is the usb connection to my ham radio tarnceiver. It has it's own sound card that works OK. But the rig controll part will not work as a user.It tells me that it can't open /dev/parport0 permission denied. You have to run it in root. This the same for anything that is based on Ubuntu 12.04. also mint debian.
This won't install on my laptop but Mint 13 mate is running on it. Was going to replace Mint 11 that is on it. Ubuntu say that it is the wrong kernel. Phoenix boots to the menue and then will not go any farther. Just sits there.

Let's try this in a terminal type sudo ls -l /dev/parport0 and paste that here. Then do a sudo chmod 777 /dev/parport0 and see if it works for the user then.
I am having you do the ls-l first so we can revert if it doesn't work. The second command gives everyone full rights and is not the real way to do it but if it doesn't work nothing will. If it does work then we can try adding your user to the group that owns it or tweaking 777 to a more secure mode that still lets the user do what needs to be done.

This didn't work still have to open in root to work. It is seeing usb port /dev/ttyusb0. A least it work as root. I even down loaded rigcat and tried the instead of hamlibs. I have even tried to different ports one for the audio and the other for rig control the is the same you have to run in root. The receiver audio comes thru the usb cable but no rig commands. All I really need is to key the tranmitter.
