Update to forums

I just want to start off by apologizing for the delay of the New PhoenixOS release. We had our computer crash at work, and I am still trying to rebuild the hd: mainly one program we use "TuxSoft TuxShop Invoice Program" for linux, so we don't loose all 20 years of data! Secondly, I lost a very close family member last nite. My Aunt Carmen was found unconcious by their neighbor and apparently she had a cardiac arrest. We lost her yesterday. They have told us she is brain dead and the machine is whats keeping her alive and there is no chance of coming back. Yesterday was a dark day for our family. Its been very hard: my wife and kids is mainly what got me out of the bed this morning. My family is at that age, where they are all older, and I have lost so many.

Very sorry to hear of your loss Ray, times like these are very hard on the family. Unfortunately as we age these events become more common, at my age I'm now close to the top of the list so I know what it's like. I trust that a little time will ease the loss.Admin wrote:I just want to start off by apologizing for the delay of the New PhoenixOS release. On a slightly brighter note you really should have a better backup system

Its hard, but we just try to keep busy.
My problem with the backup system is, I have the invoice data backed up, but to get the invoice program working I have to play with mysql and install all these libraries, and the author is in South Africa. What I need is a reliable way to make a bootable recovery dvds of the hd: like Norton Ghost. That way when something like this happens I can just run the dvds and pop in another hd and it be like nothing ever happened. I tried CLonezilla 5 years ago and it didn't work. Has it improved then, and what is the best linux backup program that can make a REAL full bootable backup like norton ghost?
Thanks
Ray..

Sorry to hear about your aunt. My prayers are with you.
You already use a great program to make backups called remastersys have you tried using it's backup function? If not Clonezilla works well it's only limitation is the destination drive has to be same size or larger. So if you have a terabyte drive you have to back up to another terabyte drive even though you only have 10gb of data.

Thanks, funeral was hard but bought a lot of family together, which she always wanted a reunion.
Remaster doesnt work for backups of store, it always gives out of space errors. I took the advice of Ross Linder (creator of Tuxshop) and tried Mondobackup. Im gonna pop in a hard drive and see if it restores fine.
ON the good side, Ross Linder was kind enough to use TeamViewer and fix everything on my end so his invoice program would work again, with no data loss

Long time ago., going back to Debian Etch days. I'm no expert. It was not easy to configure but worked well once you had it going. To be honest clonezilla is better in my eyes. You could always buy Symantec Ghost it is less than $50 dollars now and it being for the business you could write it off.
You could do something like this too. http://www.amazon.com/Aluratek-External-Portable-Duplicator-AHDDUB100/dp/B002FJJMAI/ref=pd_sxp_f_pt Good price and should work regardless of OS.

Wow I like the duplicator option better, well worth the 69 bux. Im gonna check it out, thanks John.
Has anyone experienced time changing clock in PHoenixOS build. Im working on latest and I noticed the clock never stays on the right time and if it does: it eventually changes ahead.

I ordered the duplicator, so will keep you all posted: hopefully it duplicates the drive in entirety boot sector and all! Anyone else gotten that clock bug? This latest build is a thorn in my side the clock keeps traveling to the future!

Duplicator worked out great. Now to make hd modular so I dont have to keep taking computer apart to make backups.
