Testers needed
Mon May 24, 2010 10:15 am
Development of PhoenixOS in the past couple of months has kind of hit a wall, as I am having a hard time finding testers of this O.S. and as you may or may not know; I also have a day job: owning a computer store. While I want PhoenixOS to grow and become the next Linspire; its one thing to make the os, but its very time consuming to test on all kinds of different computers/netbooks/notebooks !
Thanks to the generosity of 3 users that have offered to test this product; I might be able to finally get somewhere and they are:
Deffi
Tekmate
Bob3
(possibly ernie)
If you are willing to test out PhoenixOS (must install to hard drive as well as test live mode), and just give a summary of what you like and what you dont like and any bugs you might find; let me know.
Thanks again for all your support.

Hey guys if we all pitch in we can help make PhoenixOS great. What do you say who is with us?

I have offered to test Phoenix on numerous occasions and have never yet had any responses, certainly no links have been provided to download any iso that is the latest iteration of this distro. Not the way to keep users interested. As I have stated many times before I do not subscribe to the 'Good things come to those who wait" or "Good things take time" mantra, so to me unless there is positive movement, and I mean "positive" movement, not vague promises of sometime in the future with an 'if you're lucky' or two thrown in, there is not much point in proceeding with any distro. The last call for testers resulted in no distro to test, as did the request before if my memory serves me correct.

Hi Ray glad to see you still about in the Linux scene. I know Thorpe has had some issues getting an ISO out to us in the past and I can’t speak for him and say things will be perfect from here on out but if we want a distro that we can use and call our own we really need to pitch in and do what we can what do you say?

As I posted over here:
https://phoenixos.forumotion.com/off-topic-f5/how-is-everyone-t38.htm#505
I am building a rack box, that I will be happy to test on. Let me know when you have a version ready for testing, and what all commands that you want us to run.

I have trying to get phoenix down load but have been have troube getting the whole thing. It seems to stop before it finishes the down load.I haven't had much luck with Imagic 2010 either. The last down load of Phoenix had a checksum of 8829fe14af3f9ae362e1a2eed92a3112. Dave

Ray (odd talking to my name hehehe) I did send you a pm but never heard back from you.
The iso has been online since april 22nd and have not gotten any feedback except a handful of people and thanks goes out to those who did test it and emailed me with the results of their testing.
I spent 7 hours uploading that iso, and only got 3 emails with results of testing. I don't have the time to test this os on every possible hardware configuration, thats why its important I have testers, and I have kept the spirit of Linspire tradition, letting everyone test it, instead of a limited number, as Xandros was going to do. Unfortunately, I don't have a team like Linspire did: and I really depend on any help I can get from the community.
I don't know what else to try here.

Never received any email from you hence no reply.
I have checked the Raccomputers site, did download and install the mini, the Stealth according to the roadmap is Debian and Flamehawk is Hardy. I can't see many people wanting to test a Hardy distribution at this point in time when most current disros are Lucid based. I did say in an earlier post that trying to please everyone with multiple distributions catering to individual tastes would be counter productive and that I guess is what has happened. I appreciate the effort that you have put in and I wish you well in your future endeavours.

Thanks everyone! If all goes well another release will come out based on lucid and kde 3 this will be an alpha maybe beta we will see; I plan on releasing this in the spirit of Linspire tradition, on Father's day.

I know I'm new, but am willing to test it out. I have been lurking around at the Freespire forums for many years and now here. I registered when I popped in today after seeing this post.
I am currently running Ubuntu Lucid, which to tell the truth I am not happy with at all. Linux Mint 9 final, in my opinion needs ome work. The RC was better.
But if you still need testers I am here.

Great thanks! Something tells me this is going to be a good release, with this many volunteer for testers, that will go a LONG way in development. Thanks everyone!
