As you may or may not know, these past two releases have been made USB flash compatible; you can install to usb flash drive. A certain user; discovered it

Your welcome Ray. I just can't figure out why it fails burning to disk for me. It isn't a Phoenix OS issue either. It happens on alot of KDE distros in general. It's one reason I switched to Gnome a year back.

If you want, send me a prepaid disk mailer with dvd +R in it, and I will burn it for you, so you can have it on dvd as well. I suspect that if your not having problems in gnome its not ur burner so therefore try a different burning program: NeroLinux they offer a trial version free to try out, see if that works.

Definitely not a Gnome issue. As for using Nero, no thanx Brother. As long as I can set things to flash, I'm golden. Thanx for the offer though.

One thing that you might try...

Burn the CD to a CD-RW disk at the lowest possible speed. That has worked for me in the past when all else failed. I also use K3B on my Mepis box to burn iso's... Haven't had nary a problem with that program.

I know how to burn a disk. It's only the KDE distros that give me the headache.

It is common with grub2 that the mentuentry title may be spelled differently to the actual OS that boots.

For example , here is the grub.cfg menuentry that boots my PhoenixOS060610

You will notice that - -
menuentry 'Ubuntu, with Linux 2.6.32-22
on the boot display list , actuially boots PhoenixOS.

If you are really fussy , it is possible to edit this line in the config so it actually displays PhoenixOS .

If you read the ' set root ' line , the partition that actually boots is correct.

I'm not tryin to edit anything. I just have issues burning KDE distros. However they go on USB just fine.

I don't really like burning disks anyways. CD/DVDs can get scratched, broke or in my case LOST. So it doesn't bother me one bit. I would rather use a flash drive.

Yes I have been editing the grub menu to correct the names.

Because I have a mix of distros some using legacy and some Grub 2 I have stayed with legacy because you get complex chain loading using Grub2, and is one of the reasons I have Mepis installed. After an installation it takes no time at all to go into Mepis and update the grub, and when necessary Mepis takes very little time to reinstall or use live. I also like the neatness of the Mepis boot screen. In time I will use Grub 2 and customize it - when things have settled.
