Father's Day Release
Fri Jun 11, 2010 2:26 pm
Well here it is: Father's Day release early
The iso will be up sometime after 7pm eastern time today, maybe earlier.
All bugs are fixed including python error. Thanks to the numerous users for testing this iso good, last time I only had one volunteer: this time I had over 50 way to go and makes things go faster!
System Settings now works properly
To change user without loosing customizations:
Go to system settings
User management
Administrator mode
Change name and password: thats it: if you change anything else you may loose customizations.
Just a temp fix until final release.
I will post link when upload finishes!
Happy Father's Day, lets keep the Linspire tradition alive!
Ray
P.S. Password=amd

Maybe you should abort upload and try it first, to play it safe. If your using gftp you can always resume if it does work.

061210 up and running here now.
Download at better than 800 Kb/s.
Lost some time , my first burn was defective. Then another burn and it is okay.
During the Ubuntu install process , remember that with PhoenixOS only an ' oem ' user set up will work.
This one now has password access to Monitor and to User Management. Don;t see
kuser' but it is not needed now.
Monitor NVida drivers are lacking.
I created a second user without administratiion rights. Remember that some dialogues requiring a sudo user passwor will not work in this user account, such as Adept, and you have to log back into 'oem' to do those dialogues.
But I created a new Unix password, and now I can access Root Terminal from the User2 disktop. This way I can install packages using APT .
Also User2 loses the configurations which are actually stored in /home/oem .
If you want to copy them to User2 desktop , it is possile to copy these hidden files from /home/oem over to /home/user2 . You can use the user2 file manager , because the hidden files in /home/oem are 'others=read-only, and when they are pased into /home/user2 they will be now owned by user2 .
This install is now using 4.64 GB in my 7 GB partition. I don't know yet why it is less than the previous PhoenixOS060610.

Nvidia drivers should work, you have to use restricted manager. Enable, make sure your connected to internet, then it should install.
As for user, all you have to do is this:
Click system settings
user management
administrator
Just change oem to what the name you want
Put password you like
Your done , and no loss of customizations and full access apt, adept everything will work.

Am running it live now. Every thing is working in Live mode. Had 1 xorg error at boot. But upon login it was fine. Will see what happens after install.
Edit:
So far, so good. Installed fine, change user and pass. Installed nVidia drivers. No issues at all.
I did notice that after install, both Install icons are still on the desktop.

Have downloaded twice and burned 3 times. The sum checks but on live install I get to signing in, and with the entry of a of amd I get an infinite string of a's. The a's continue until the machine has closed down completely. I will try again to do a direct install. This failed first time because of a vesa error. \\\i will come back.

I am using a CQ61-420US laptop it is an AMD 2.1ghz, 250gb drive and 3gb of RAM. Thorpe has the exact same model which is why I find it so strange. I seem to have issues with anything Debian/Ubuntu based. Debian stuff works except sound and the Ubuntu's seem to be very unstable. I would say it was a hardware problem except Mandriva 2010 is rock solid I booted yesterday and it has been running almost 12 hours without a singe issue. Windows 7 which originally was on here ran fine too now it only runs Mandriva.

Ok, JP, humor me here. Have you tried installing from USB yet? if not, give that a shot.
I have 1 issue that is stymieing me though. I am a big time torrenter and I use ktorrent. Anytime I goto dl something it stalls out. Even on a torrent that I know has seeders. I only torrent from private sites. I also get access denied now, when trying to add a torrent and point it to my storage partition.
Getting permission denied alot now. My music folder is located in my storage partition. So Amarok can't access it now. Also I used the fix above to change my login name and pass, but the home folder is still oem. I think this is similar to the Bob/Jennifer bug....
