Ray,

Downloaded in 19mins so pretty quick. Installed to a 25GB virtual machine in my Vmware Workstation 7 system. Boot to live dvd approx 25secs and install to hard drive maybe 5 mins. I was using the iso from my hard drive though.

User error is still there so I'll have to look up your post re fixing it.

I'll check out some of the stuff thats there and get back.

Ok, I have installed it and I can confirm that the user error is still there. Also now I cannot access my storage partitions. The perms are off some where.

Ray,

The following are my iniial comments on this release.

Major problem on first boot - haven't been game to try it again at this point.

Clicked on Computer - Network - Samba Shares this produced a screen showing a Workgrop icon, clicking on this caused a complete freeze, not only of my VM Phoenix but also my Win7 Ultimate, my only way out was the reset key. I have quite a few VM's on this computer and haven't experienced it before. However I will do some backups and retry the exercise, not only on the latest Phoenix but the 2 previous versions, I also have a couple of PCLinuxOS and Ultimate Editions which I will also try.

That was the bad news, the rest is pretty positive.

Amarok played audio cd's no problem, Digikam recognised my Sony Mavica MVC500 camera and downloaded the contents.

Picasa imported the pictures.

All the desktop programs that I tried loaded successfully as did all the programs I loaded from the menus.

A couple of failures - notably Knetwork Manager which did nothing and the Advanced system settings for Sharing, I can upload a screenshot which details the error message if necessary. The message said Smb and Nfs servers are not installed on this machine and are required for this module.

All programs loaded extremely quickly. All in all a very successful first glance.

Yes User error is still there, and it won't be fixed till final; this is still a beta. I realize nothing is going to be perfect; but once most of the bugs are fixed then will go final. This release fixes a few bugs, and provides updates as well as newer kernel. Also the addition of mahjong (hqlinuz) for someone here Cool Pidgin 2.7.1, dmraid, Skype, ubuntu software center (stan the man), and reverted back to isolinux for compatibility, and removed adept notifier/updater as an optional instead of autostart; in hopes to fix Tekmates problem, and lastly an update to knetwork manager hopefully fixing Deffis problem.
Also shaved off some boot time, should boot faster.
Fingers crossed and waiting for reports to come in!

Fix is easy now, just go to system settings, click i think user management go into administrator mode, click modify and change real name & login name only, then create a password; apply. Your done with full root access and no lost of customizations.

Enjoy !

Just tried it in VMware with only minor issues including the user creation problem still existing and the live version always comes up in low res in VMware once installed it works fine. I will try it live tonight and let you know if it boots on my machine or not. If it works live I will backup what I have and test the installer as well.

As with the first release I can not connect to the internet. As to the low resolution as one installs live, X is not active and taking the option startx when it is given returns the graphics to normal.

So Phoenix must sit on its partition for a little longer.

I am downloading it now at 2.5 MB/sec... VERY NICE...

Will burn and run Live in a few, and report back. I even have a new rack to install on when I get a little extra time.

Well... 6th time was the charm Smile

I am posting via LiveDVD right now. No joy on accessing my RAID array, but I like some of the other improvements that I have seen so far... The software center is a NICE touch. Thanks Ray for xmahjongg being installed in the distro. It is my favorite tile game, although it can be maddening and addicting... Wink Cool Laughing

Why do you have so many software managers installed??? Are you seeing which ones work best, or are you undecided as to which one that you are going to make the default once you go Gold??? Just curious. I kinda like playing with several of them any how...

I have to go now, but I am going to install this on one of my racks real soon.

Sorry I see what you mean I was looking under the system menu not the systems setttings application. My fault.

Now on to the bad news I know you worked hard my friend but this one won't even launch X for me. It goes black and stays that way. I was having issues with Debian based systems but Kanotix is the exception to the rule it has been 100% rock solid for me. I will be more than happy to try any fixes suggestions but the installed system will have to stay Lenny based for the time being.

Weird I installed that dmraid thingie you were telling me about; will look into it some more. I will probably go with Software center; but I wanted to keep a few on like you said to see feedback and make sure the general community likes Software center as much as I do; feels like cnr. Glad you like the mahjong; I try to listen to what everyone wants Wink

Tekmate still having a problem and you with the raid, back to the drawing board. I may have to mod the kernel. I thought for sure between dmraid and the prereleased kernel would fix it. Glad everything else was good

I don't know why PhoenixOS can't see my RAID array. Perhaps it is the way Konq "sees" devices. Nautilus 2.30.1 in Mint and Ubuntu sees and lets me mount the array just fine. I am not a huge fan of Konq as a "file & computer browser" anyway, but I wonder if another file and computer browser would work... I will try Krusader later when I get the chance to install this version.

Thats an idea; try installing Nautilus and Krusader see if that works, and dolphin. I might replace konqueror.
