Wed Jun 23, 2010 4:24 pm
Once again, thanks to the testers in this community a lot more bugs have been fixed:
DMRaid updated and Nautilus the new default, but konqueror is still there in case desired.
Python update
Firefox and Cups UPdate
Kernel Update: including nvidia/ati
Search added to menu
Update Manager added as default and will not do distro update so you can no longer mess it up
Kubuntu Software Manager now default
Knetwork manager update
More Software Packages added
KDE3 Packages updated
I will upload tonite should be online by tomorrow.
Enjoy!

Can't wait. I always install synaptic. KPackage just doesn't do it for me. But it's an easy install.

Ray,
Is the ability to turn on the dist upgrade going to be available in the Update Manager if we so desire to enable it??? If not, are you going to offer an upgrade path that will not require starting over from scratch???
I have used the dist upgrade in Ubuntu a couple of times, and other than the time that I messed it up ... it has worked flawlessly. I was able to recover from the botched upgrade attempt (my fault entirely... my impatience caused the whole mess) by booting into the command line and running dpkg a few times to clear out the mess that I had caused.
Or is your distro going to be too proprietary for the dist upgrade option???
Harvey

Too early to tell at this point; haven't decided how to do the dist upgrade- originally was going to be done via scripts but now not sure.
Good news is this is based on LUCID LTS so I have some time to figure what route to take for distro upgrades in the future; I would like to have rolling releases; we will see. As you already figured out, my distro is too proprietary for the normal dist upgrade option.
You could turn distro back on but you would loose all the customizations.
I am uploading new ISO tonite; looking forward to your report Harvey

As usual I will try it out and let you know what I find. What kernel will this one have?

For what it's worth...
My vote would be to come up with some kind of upgrade plan where as you don't loose any of your data.
If you can come with a way to keep users personal customizations as well, all the better, but quite frankly, not losing your data, pictures, music, videos, etc., etc., etc. is far more important than personal customizations. They could always be reset over time, but loosing your daughter's college graduation pictures...

Yah, I was impressed as heck by the sheer speed of the thing; my ancient test machine, a former Lindows 4.0 Wintergreen ($199 special with 1.3ghz Celeron) is just twirling & dancing circles around another 2.6ghz P4 box, both doing similar video rendering.hqlinux wrote:I am looking forward to this release as well...

I thought the program crashed, it finished up so fast.

International time zones are confusing me. Ray, you posted during my evening (23 June). I was expecting to find the Flamehawk download area unavailable due to uploading. For this iso you will use a different title or has the upload already taken place with the old 061910 title? Just for clarification not impatience.
Thanks
David

The new file won't be 061910, it'll be 06 (month) 23 or 24 (day) and then the year, 10.
Expect it to be 062310 or 062410.
The upload speed down in that neighborhood isn't the fastest, though there's always the chance that there was one more package or three that needed updating. 8)

Thanks Bob,
In the early days it did happen when an iso was revised within 24 hrs. It was around the time Ray had his Laptop taken.

ISO should be up 7:15pm eastern time today, thats the time I get home, and give or take a few minutes to update the link.
Also didn't you have a birthday: Happy Birthday!

I installed this veersion as a virtual machine on my Vmware Workstation 7 system. The fllowing times are interesting, although I did use the iso on disk function instead of burning a dvd.
Live boot time 20secs.
Install to hard drive time 5 mins
I allowed a 30gb drive and 1024mb ram. The response time once again is very good for all the programs that I tried, although my printers are still not correct. I'll post on the other thread about that.
Once I resolve the printer issues I'll do some more testing but it's looking pretty good so far.

Printers are usually a pain to get installed in VM anyways.

Running live right now had to use the nomodeset option again but other than that no issues. A couple of suggestions I would make: 1 computer opens in Nautilus but Documents opens in Konqueror it would be better to match them just my own two cents, 2 Change the default theme/icons of Gnome to better match the installed system it would help bring things together, 3 Use a stable version of Firefox you may want to look at Ubuntuzilla rather than the Ubuntu repo.
Overall a very nice release I will do more testing and let you know if I find anything.
