about that xorg.conf file...

Lucid doesn't use an xorg.conf file, but I was wondering if anybody has added one in order to force otherwise hard to configure hardware tweaks, and if so, did you just "fabricate" one or just copy one from a previous install that was already set up the way you liked?

Lucid does not connect to internet for me but I have used the xorg.conf from other distros with Phoenix. I am not sure which I used as I now have a print out. It was not from the spires because it lacks the modeline sections. I just checked and it looks as if I used th one from Debian Lenny.
It was to get the nvidia driver to work and I found that it had to be set up before installing the driver but from past experience with advice from JD, I not found that necessary before.
All I can say is that is has worked for me and my problem.

You can create a real generic one like this...
Section "Device"
Identifier "ATI"
Driver "fglrx"
EndSection
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Default Screen"
DefaultDepth 24
EndSection
....
I have done this to get accelerated graphics in Ubuntu and Squeeze.
If you need something special just add it in.
