New Version of PhoenixOS

I been thinking a lot. After I finish the 2nd final. How would you all feel about PhoenixOS being based on Android. I have a working build somewhat and it looks so slick and fast! Just an idea I'm tossing around, to get feedback from PhoenixOS users.

As there are already some well-advanced projects based on Debian and Ubuntu , why not work on Android .

Nope its used widely on tablets/epads, and mini laptops. Its a FULL OS, and has a market application that reminds me of original cnr, so easy to use. If enough people here are in favor of it, I will do it. Be something unique and different from all the other distros, and yet still maintaining linux, since android is from linux

Yes I would just have to find the right fingerprint for the android market, then yes they could use apks, or android market.

Plus if you ever use android, in a lot of ways it reminds me of Linspire 5.0 and CNR legacy. Good ole days!

I tried the Lucid version of Phoenix and had the problems of no internet connexion etc. My Linux Mag had Ubuntu 11.04 on the disc. Suprised, I was able to install it (KDE version) but could not find out how to install nvidia. I was not suprised as my card. is not supported by latest xorg (1.10). I was delighted to find that it ran the GL Euphoria screen saver with the experimental driver. This is the first time - even with Linspire I needed the proprietory driver. Debian's expermental driver does not seem to work.

So I also look forward to an 11.04 version of Phoenix, if there is to be one. I have been having fun with Debian but the philosophy is getting in the way.

PhoenixOS is now final, I will not be making a 2nd final after all, because the bugs that are on the bug list get fixed after you do the updates. There was very few bugs.

Yes there will be an 11.04 version of PhoenixOS

The android version is just an idea I am toying with, but there will still be 11.04 and whatever comes out after that; as long as the community supports it I will keep doing it.

Hi Ray,

As I have stated before, no Ubuntu based OS after Hardy worked fully on my machine, karmic and lucid not at all, but 11.04 does. This opens the possibility that a future Phoenix may work. I did try to install the final Black Hawk as requested without luck. I will double check that it was the final version. I must admit that I was angry and lost interest but it was no ones fault and I found that I had less time for computing.

I will visit the forum more often - it is still bookmarked.

I hope to have a new box by the weekend or early next week and I will try out the latest Phoenix and hope to become active again.

In my Linux mag that has just arrived, I noted that a number of people had no connectivity with Ubuntu flavours because of a firmware update by their broadband provider. It is my provider and I may have been one of the unlucky ones but as posted, I have been able to use Kubuntu 11.04.

Hi Ray, are you talking Android x86 or for ARM style processors? The x86 version should scream on netbooks! And there are ARM style netbooks or mini-laptops which ever you prefer. Just curious... JohnP

X86 version. I personally find the Aishuo A816 Tablet with keyboard case it functions better and faster than the Acer Aspire netbook which is shocking since acer is in my opinion a GREAT netbook.

x86? Cool! I like the tablets, but for me, I don't have the run time as a netbook/laptop with an extended battery. I mentioned I have a NP netbook, a 1030NR, I added the extended battery after I rebuilt the netbook and have been pretty happy except for the the screen. It could be a slightly higher rez, but I'll just suffer through it...
I'm kinda limited to what I fall into with the tablets. Started with a Pandigital Novel, converted to full android and later Pandigital Planet which is full android from the start. Also fell into a EPAD with a keyboard cover. The Planet is the one I'm happiest with, but we both know they do not compare with your Aishuo. If anyone is interested, the EPAD is nice, but you can't get very far from an outlet. Even in Airplane Mode, I can't get an hour run time. Just shows you get what you pay for. Anyway, a Atom based device running x86 Android should be pretty snappy! That should be interesting! JohnP

I saw I made a typo before, Its a HP 1030NR Netbook...I think I can get about 5 hours on it now... Haven't checked for a while. Tablets are great, I'll not knock them as they are very handy if you're 'consuming' data. Internet, videos, music and the like. I have trouble enough using a regular keyboard, much less a touch screen keyboard. I almost need a keyboard for data entry, that EPAD with the add on keyboard works good, but hardly any run time kills that, so for me the netbook is the best of both worlds, small and handy. I've checked out several and I've settled on the HP for now. Even with the small 16 Gig SSD, it's easy to add in SD cards or flash drives to carry added files like videos, music or ebooks. Android would just make it faster with a smaller 'footprint' on the SSD. JohnP

I'm getting on a tablet kick a little more now.... I see some of the tablet/notebooks are coming down in price. The one I'm looking at has a indoor/outdoor display, at least the specs or that model, not real sure about that particular one... But It's pretty cheap and it is a convertible tablet with a core duo CPU. What I'm wondering is can Android support a digitizer screen? Not really holding my breath on that one. I think Linux in general does and that's what I'd like to try. At least it has a better run time that the tablets I have now! JohnP
