If all goes well I may have a replacement laptop soon. If that happens, Final PhoenixOS Hardy will be released shortly. Then beta PhoenixOS Lucid, which before the laptop died, was working on a surprise feature Very Happy

Updated Roadmap Supplement Empty got the 072210 loaded, finally...

Wed Aug 25, 2010 9:17 am
I noticed that the multiple desktops aren't showing in the taskbar, usually run 4 of the critters.
Dell Optiplex w/3.2ghz P-D processor.
Also the video card & monitors are detected (Nvidia 8600 dual head) but no multiple monitors in the display setup.

Other than that, haven't had a chance to do much tweaking.

Good luck on the new laptop, there's a small box on its way to ya. Wink

When I am back up again, I will look into that. Which version are you using?

Will keep my eye open for ur package and once I get it I can finish those 2 laptops for you.

If I remember correctly, it is the latest hardy. Once the desktops are set in the simple compiz settings and the applet added to the panel, it is as required.

Updated Roadmap Supplement Empty Cube vs Multiple Desktops

Wed Aug 25, 2010 5:04 pm
Correct me if something has changed, but when the cube is activated then multiple desktops don't function (they're mutually exclusive)...

Got the most recent Hardy [*072210.iso] to burn a nice install disc & installed said OS from live.

You can keep the little present heading your way; the guys I got it from seem like good folks to do business with, I'll email you their particulars after you've had a chance to eyeball their wares.

Come to think of it, I haven't installed any nvidia drivers in this box, something I never had much luck with before.
(I got a lot of practice at restoring the xorg file). What a Face

Both monitors are working though not spanning as a single monitor, getting 2 separate identical displays.

I haven't been having any of that "spare time" to give the machine a proper workout, maybe this weekend we'll take a day or 2 off & I can park my butt for more than a couple minutes & go through things.

OK, thanks for the heads up on that one, got the desktops onto the taskbar now.

If Compiz is installed then you can not set the number of desktops in the Control Centre, but in the Simple Compiz Configuration. I came across this when I installed desktop effects in the Spires.

I did notice an odd effect after rebooting; the desktop count in the taskbar jumped to 16, Shocked even though there obviously not that many.
Going to be needing more than 15 minutes at a crack to play with the critter. Mad
I'll give the "Simple Compiz Configuration" route a go later on after we get a bit of that "free time".

I think a reboot was necessary to get rid of the 16 after setting.

Also I find that using the simple compiz manager, 4 have to be chosen in a row not a block of 2 x 2. With the later only 2 desktops can be selected using the mouse (1->2->1 ..). With the former 1->2->3->4->1. The option of clicking on the applet still works.
